A Decade of Kobita Club
The begining :
The brain child of Surojit Chatterjee, it was the simple line "Aar Bhallegena Tomay Chharra," on the social media platform Facebook, that set the ball rolling for Kobita Club.
Wayback in December 2011, this quintissential line and a suggestion to add on lines created a stir.
The language connect in Bengali was instant and it appealed to people. There was a spontaneous and huge participation, from people across generations and from various parts of the world. The result was a huge poem that went on to occupy almost four pages in the print form. And thus it continued, writing, posting and sharing lines of poetry almost everyday with new lines, themes etc in Bengali language. The tremendous response of this unique concept, created the need to preserve and archive poems. On January 3rd, 2012, a dedicated and exclusive Facebook page Surojit O Bondhura Kobita Club, was formed to have a connecting link with similar minded friends, who enjoyed writing, reading and creating poetry. With the overwhelming participation, support and encouragement of friends, technically and creatively a thought germinated - to create an online archive to preserve poems created every day by our friends around the world. The idea finally materialised and an exclusive website to preserve writings, www.kobitaclub.com was formed.
The website was inaugurated by the famous and noted literary persona Shri Sunil Gangopadhyay on 28th October 2012 at YMCA auditorium, Kolkata. Created and designed by several young, enthusiastic members of Notional Systems, the website is completely participative. Anyone can log in, register and write their own poems, prose and after moderation, gets archived instantly.
The archive has successfully completed ten years of its existence, and at the moment there is a mobile friendly version of it.
There are continuous participative activites and constantly provides a platform for writers:
1. Soptaher Sera.
2. Poetry on FM Radio Friends FM.
3. Pick Chaar Kotha.
4. Book Publishing from the house of Patra Bharati.
5. Annual event of Grand Meet held at various venues in Kolkata.
6. Tarpor (ধারাবাহিক).
7. Bondhu Kotha for youtube channel.
8. Kolomkar Award.
9. Theme based writings on various topics.
10. Digimag.
11. Periodic offline and participative events in association with Oxford Book Store Kolkata.
So, ten years of dedicated and honorary participation of the core team members of Kobita Club, has managed to make this dream a successful and decent reality.
